Wine Reviews by Keith Wallace

Posted by Keith Wallace

Keith’s reviews are far from traditional. Besides being a winemaker, educator, and critic, Wallace offers a unique and unbiased viewpoint on wine assessment. His reviews are not airy or mastermind praise commonly used in conventional wine prose, but the contrary are direct and intuitive analyses. Wallace’s way of looking at the wine’s structure; namely, balance, acidity, and tannins, is what he chooses to highlight, alongside a down-to-earth way of doing it; he relates the wine to actual experience rather than theoretical rating.

His critiques are typically viewed from the Wine School of Philadelphia and its linked platforms, including Vinology and National Wine School literature. He is a winemaker who brings his wealth of wine knowledge, and this enhances his critique as he performs more than just a description. His articles are often accompanied by historics and stylistics; he shows how a particular wine fits into the broader regional or global picture.

Unlike many critics, Wallace avoids sounding elitist and sticks to clear, straightforward language. His reviews may illuminate the winemaker’s decisions, vineyard effects, or even imperfections that are frequently missed. He is aptly not afraid to point out wines that are overly oaked, have excessive extraction, or are not true to their region.
