From the Capcanes cooperative in the Montsant region of Catalonia, this straightforward blend of 80% old vines Garnacha and 20% Syrah is a deep purple color that thins out to light ruby. It has a light to medium body and starts off a bit austere, with the tannins dominating.
However, with some air, it develops blackberries and slightly underripe strawberries on the nose, with a hint of leather beneath it all. Mint leaf becomes apparent, and the finish is longer than one might expect. Not a blockbuster by any means, but at $15, it’s a delightful bottle of wine.
