Fattoria di Magliano 2009 “Heba” Morellino di Scansano

Posted by Keith Wallace

The Tuscan coast is a hotbed for winemaking, especially for Cabernet Sauvignon. In Scansano, however, the focus is the Sangiovese grape, locally known as Morellino.

Warmer than inland regions like Chianti, Scansano produces rich and ripe wines and are often more modern in profile. The region is also notable for its excellent quality to value ratio, one of the best in central Italy.

The “Heba” is consistently an excellent bottling, although 2009 does not stand up to previous vintages. That said, it is still an excellent bottle for the price.

Aromas of fresh leather and mushroom are evident, leading to pretty floral and herbaceous notes. The floral notes meld with soft red fruit flavors on the palate—a great value. More Italian wine reviews.
