Toro is the birthplace of Tempranillo, the ur-Spanish grape; this wine is full of violets, but it is no shrinking violet. On the nose, those floral notes and roasting coffee aromas draw you in. Then the crushed tar and leather sneak in. A single taste will give you maraschino cherry, burnt sugar, and vanilla. Then comes a level of tannins that would be considered far too aggressive by many wine lovers.
