Wine Review: Bodegas Frutos Villar 2015 “Muruve” Toro Reserva

If you don’t know Spanish wines, you are missing out. This is a bottle that could not exist at this price point in any part of the world. A fourth-generation winemaker crafting wines from one of the most ancient wine regions in Europe

Toro is the birthplace of Tempranillo, the ur-Spanish grape; this wine is full of violets, but it is no shrinking violet. On the nose, those floral notes and roasting coffee aromas draw you in. Then the crushed tar and leather sneak in. A single taste will give you maraschino cherry, burnt sugar, and vanilla. Then comes a level of tannins that would be considered far too aggressive by many wine lovers.

If Shakespeare were a nonbinary roller derby queen, then this would be her drink of choice.
