Solena 2013 “Domaine Danielle Laurent Reserve” Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley

Posted by Keith Wallace

So the name of this winery is tricky. Solena was a side project that Laurent and Danielle Montalieu worked on while their vineyards matured. The plan was to eventually start making wines as Domaine Danielle Laurent, which is the name of their actual winery. However, they earned a huge degree of critical acclaim base on the Solena name… so they stuck with it.

Their Pinots are typically in the $40-$50 range, as is this bottle. At $26 in the Wine & Spirits stores, this is a real steal.

This is classic Willamette valley wine, closer to Burgundy than Carneros in style. Brilliant red fruit in a taut profile of burnt roses, orange blossoms, and elegant tannins. A simply beautiful Pinot.
