The “Freaks & Geeks Wine Challenge” is an exclusive, members-only event that combines the eccentric and the exceptional in the world of wine. This challenge invites participants to bring bottles that embody the essence of “Freaks” or “Geeks.” While the theme playfully nods to the diverse personalities of the attendees—ranging from wine geeks to those rumored to have a deliciously freaky side—the real focus is on the wines themselves. Each year, a winner is selected based on who brings the geekiest or freakiest bottle. In past events, we’ve celebrated unique finds like a wine crafted by Italian inmates, which won the title of “Geekiest” for its unusual origins and impeccable taste. Another year, a pet-nat of Pinotage, reminiscent of carbonated cigarettes in the most delightful way, was crowned “Freakiest.”
To participate in this spirited competition, members are required to bring a bottle of wine, but this isn’t a last-minute shopping spree. We encourage you to delve into your wine collections or scour the depths of the wine world to find that perfect bottle that screams freak or geek. Embrace the challenge and showcase your wine discovery skills, whether you’re unveiling an obscure varietal or a bottle with a fascinating story.
