Great Wine Made Simple (Online)
Friday, May 14 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
In this online wine session, we will study the major grape varieties, highlight important flavor profiles, and decode wine labeling. We guarantee that you’ll be buying or ordering with confidence after one class. And always getting the wine you want, regardless of price!
This online wine class is a tribute to Master Sommelier and bestselling author Andrea Immer Robinson. Her book, Great Wine Made Simple (Clarkson Potter) was first published in 2000, just a few months before the Wine School of Philadelphia was founded. The book was required reading for our students back then, and we still think it’s one of the top books for novice wine lovers.
Andrea was kind enough to return the favor. In 2004, she was the keynote speaker at a Wine School of Philadelphia lecture series. It was held at the Food Network’s Great Big Food Show in Philadelphia. She started off her lecture by telling the sold-out audience “You are lucky to have the Wine School of Philadelphia” and went on to say a few other kind words about the school’s director, Keith Wallace.
In this online class, we honor “Great Wine Made Simple” and our friend-in-wine Andrea. Like the book, this class is designed to give the wine student an easy way to decipher the wine labels of great wines from great wine regions. You can expect this class to cover the classic wine regions within France, Italy, Spain, and more!
In this class you will learn
- What is vitis vinifera
- What are appellations
- Label Terms
- Old World vs New World
- Decode a Wine Labels
About Online Wine Classes
Students are encouraged to pop open a bottle of wine during class. If the bottle reflects the class theme, all the better! Afterward, we will open the floor to you and all attending students. You will be free to chat, talk about the wines you’ve tasted.
We are on the East Coast, so class times are listed in Eastern Standard Time. We will give everyone five minutes to get situated before we start the class.
Classes are a fun one-hour event designed for self-edification and are not professional wine certifications.
Invitations are sent out the morning of the class at 10 am. If you don’t get your invite, please check your spam!
