Wine tasting in Slovenia

Answered Closed

We are travelling to Slovenia (and possibly a little of Croatia) in May and are overwhelmed by the magnitude of wine tasting possibilities. Any guidance to narrow down our itinerary?
Thank you!

The first thing you should do is google “Orange Wines” and get familiar with this unique style of wine. Once you are in Slovenia check out Ales Kristancic’s Movia winery as well as Edi Simcic and Kabaj. Those are my top three picks.

There are similar wineries in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, just across the Italian border from Slovenia. Gravner and Radikon are two examples.

In any case, I would suggest being familiar with the style before going. This is the hotbed for natural winemaking using ancient techniques. Very distinctive.
