Viewing Active Courses

I am in the Core Program but do not have Active Courses in my account. Is this because I am not signed up for the Professional certification?
Thank you.

Thank you for your input.

I am sorry you feel this is unfair. Feeling like that is never enjoyable. We’ve all been there at one point or another.

For people in the Core and Foundation program, We spend about 15 minutes on the first day of class going over the difference between auditing a class and taking a class for certification.

I am truly sorry that you misunderstood what Alana was talking about. We assume people in the Intermediate program are familiar with how the program works. In the future, we will stress this issue further in the Intermediate class.

Prior to the first day of class, we try to make sure our students are exposed to the difference between auditing and pro certification. We address the issue on the website, during registration, in the welcome email, and in the hand-out material. I will review the various elements of our communication stream to make sure each element is clear and precise.

Please keep in mind that the “enthusiast” option was designed for people just like yourselves. We created it so you wouldn’t have to pay for certification if you didn’t want it.

Even if we split apart the certification from the reading material, we would still charge for access to the intellectual property. However, we only charge a nominal fee for access to the NWS online system ($175 versus the standard $600), there wouldn’t be any cost savings at all.

Thanks bshapiro. I think the confusion is that I (speaking for myself) thought the lecture notes were separate from the Professional Certification material. That all students had access to the lecture notes and that the certification material was in addition to, as a more advanced or detailed level of information. If these two things are not separated, ok. But it may be something to consider for the future – even if as handouts. There was no keeping up with note taking on France (fabulous but mon dieu!) so I stopped halfway through class thinking I could catch up with the lecture notes. When Alana said the information was available online, she probably thought we were in the certification program.

As amateur enthusiasts we may not need or want the certificate, but we do want the knowledge, all of it. So it seems a little unfair not to allow us at least access to class notes, that we were told by Alana we would have. Is there no way we can view the notes?

Correct,

Online material is only available for students who opted for the upgrade to the National Wine School Professional Certification.
