Unconventional Potential Student needs more information

I am 57 years old and have been collecting and tasting wine for over 30 years and have a rather extensive cellar. I am considering starting a career in the wine business in some way and would like to discuss which of your courses makes sense for me. It could be a complicated discussion but I would appreciate speaking to a real person from the school.

Hi David,

Thank you for contacting us, and for your interest in our Wine School.

If you are considering taking an academic program, we recommend attending a basic class here first. The best introduction to our philosophy and style of teaching is in Wine 101. Even for students who have prior wine knowledge and experience, this is helpful to discern whether we are a good fit for you. Our instructors are also available after class to discuss any potential questions you might have.

For those students who would like to begin taking academic programs at the Advanced level, we do offer the option to test out of Foundation and Intermediate. This would entail the successful completion of two written exams and one blind tasting exam. The exam cost is $250 per sitting.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

Cheers!

David,

All our systems are electronic, which allows us to offer what we do at about 1/3 the cost of what it would cost otherwise. Our students are expected to be tech-savvy, without exception.

And what we do isn’t done anywhere else. If you attended a program, you would quickly learn that having 30 years of experience in wine collecting would make you an average student here, not an exceptional one. That is not to be dismissive, only to stress the point that this a place you can actually expand your horizons.

If you can’t have the courtesy to contact me directly and speak to me on the phone, you will not get me as a student, nor the 2 others I have spoken to about it. I understand your desire to not waste your time but I will not sign up for your course work without speaking to someone. So, if you want customers/students (especially the less tech savvy among us) you do actually need to speak to them if they need to…

Respectfully,
