Hi,
I am a spirits importer trying to sell in PA my brands. What are the regulations for taxes and other permits? is the retailer given max 30 days to pay? Or do I have to clear payments through the SLA?

Jim,

In PA, you would have to clear your wines through a distributor and the PLCB.
(For those reading along, the SLA is New York’s State Liquor Authority, and the PLCB is the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board)

If you aren’t familiar with how business is done in PA, you are in for a treat. That is sarcasm, I’m sorry to say. In PA, spirits are only sold through the state-run liquor stores. That is going to change, but it hasn’t yet. You can get placements at restaurants, but that requires a rigorous ground game. The taxes, fees, and charges are dense. You may want to seek out a PA liquor law attorney before jumping in (a few have commented on this page): https://www.vinology.com/new-wine-laws-plcb/
