My entire gift certificate was not used even though at checkout it said it was applied

My gift certificate was for $150 and when I checked out it said I only had to pay $12 – yet I was charged $81.00 How does this get fixed as you should be refunding me $69.00? I do not want it applied to another class as when I went to check out it said I owed $12 but my receipt from PayPal says I was charged $81. Thank you in advanced for your help

We haven’t heard back from PayPal. We didn’t want to keep you waiting, so we’ve gone ahead and refunded your tickets and canceled your registration. If you want those tickets, you will need to re-register.

We’ve also added some language to the checkout process regarding using gift certificates, which should help. We also recommend not using PayPal in combination with discount tickets and a gift certificate at this point.

Is that from your end – I’ve never had a problem with them and have no idea what to do.

  • No, it’s not from our end. You were on PayPal’s site. If they didn’t show you the total amount before you purchased, then they’ve violated their TOS and several applicable regulations.

  • Ok – any idea what I should do? If it can’t be fixed, I just want to make sure of the balance on my gift certificate.

We have to look into this. I’ll need some information from you. We have a note from PayPal stating the following:

$69 worth of Store Credit restored to coupon j********. Because PayPal doesn’t accept discount on shipping & tax.

When checking out via PayPal, did this or any notice appear? PayPal won’t charge you a higher rate unless they flag notify you.

  • Thanks for the super quick reply – no, nothing appeared, I only noticed it when the confirmation came up and said $81 instead of $12. If it had come up, I would’ve cancelled the payment and started over.

  • In that case, we need to submit a trouble ticket to PayPal.
