Level 1 - Sommelier Training

Answered Closed

I had a question about the recommended courses for students interested in pursuing a certified professional Sommelier certification – what course do you recommend staring with, and what is the start date of the next Fall, 2016 program? I also wanted to ask if that suggestion varied based on what certification program I was interested in pursuing (e.g., WSET vs CMS)?

Lastly, I wanted to ask if you had a student discount for courses (I am currently a grad student at UPenn).

Thanks for your interest in the Wine School of Philadelphia.

We recommend each student begin with the Foundation program, whether they have some industry background or wine knowledge or are starting out. Our curriculum was designed by a UC Davis alum to impart real, hands-on skills and knowledge about wine, as opposed to memorization-based material. Therefore, it’s rarely the case that a student is ready for the advanced sessions before taking the Foundation program.

However, we do offer the option to test out of the Foundation if that is something you are interested in. That entails successfully passing a blind tasting exam and written exam.

You can see the upcoming roster of programs here: http://www.vinology.com/wine-course/

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
