Classes in Spain

Guys – I am going to be in Spain during the month of August and want to take some serious wine classes there but also want to get my hands dirty and learn the viticulture and winemaking process as well out on the land. Any ideas or contacts you can steer me towards?

Thanks Keith! Especially for the quick response. I figured as much but I’m also thinking all I really want to do is volunteer my time and work at the location for a few days. I would do odd jobs and carry boxes and do anything these guys needed done just to be around the space and the people. Let me know your thoughts, given the timing and the fact I’ll only have between 5-8 free days I’m not looking for anything formal. Informal and whatever goes is more the flavor I’m thinking

Kevin,

We do have contacts in Spain, mostly in Priorat and Rioja. however, it’s a bit late in the game to plan something out. For the types of classes I am talking about –hands-on with winemakers– you’d have to have a Level 3 certification or higher prior to heading out. You may also need a letter of reference, as well. I made a call, and all of them are already booked so the point is moot.

At this late date, I think your best bet would be reaching out to a tour company. There are a few, but Catavino may be the top choice. They could set up a very good tour with a focus on education. They are good people, and have great connections. Let me know how it works out. Good luck!

Keith
