Accreditation

Hi there,

I’m wondering how the National Wine School accreditation stacks up to WSET and CMS. Is the National Wine School recognized by those programs? As in, if I wanted to continue studies after being with the Wine School of Philadelphia with WSET or CMS, would I have to start from the bottom level in classes? What field do most Wine School graduates go on to work in (in the realm of wine)?

Zoe,

As an academic and professional winemaker, I prefer NWS over WSET and CMS for wonky reasons: NWS follows national standards and develops accreditation protocols that any school can use. I hate the idea of certification silos, which offer zero in the way of outside auditing and oversight. There are many critics around the web regarding the old way of doing things. Many are way more eloquent than I am. As for what our students do? That’s a very long list of accomplishments. I am very proud of them, but we can’t take credit for that, though: we attract a high quality of students.
