Welcome to Wine 101

If you are new to the study of wine — or simply new to the Wine School of Philadelphia — this class is for you. Here, you will experience each of the Wine School’s hallmarks: dispelling industry rumors, banishing popular wine myths, and delivering information in an easy-to-understand manner. Developed by a U.C. Davis winemaker and honed over ten years of teaching experience, it represents a singular view of wine education. Allow us to share it with you!

Wine 101
Wine 101 is a wildly popular wine tasting class.

Wine 101 is Awesome

You love this class. We know you do. There are weeks where there are more people on the waitlist than in the actual class.  What you probably don’t know is that teaching Wine 101 is the crucible through which all successful sommelier-instructors must pass through. Teaching this class is as close to a  guarantee of success that exists in the wine trade.

Of the eleven sommelier-instructors who have taught this class, two became restaurant critics; three wrote bestselling books, two become university professors, and one became a food and wine editor. And three still work for the school.

Attending this Wine Class as an Online Student?

This class is offered as an in-person class (Premium and Discount Tickets) or a virtual wine tasting (Online Tickets). We will send you a Zoom link with your ticket. Please keep that email! You can also come back to this page, and your zoom link will show here at the start of class.

Buying Wines for Online Students

We recommend picking up wines via wine.com or wine-searcher.com. The wine list is included on this page. You don’t need to have the exact wines on the list. It’s unlikely you will be able to find all the wines we use: we have a vast wine cellar, and many of the wines we taste in class are unavailable via retail channels. Instead, we recommend focusing on the varietals and regions we are using, not the vintage or producer. Please note that we cannot ship or sell wines. If you need assistance in purchasing wines, we offer a paid sommelier consulting service.
