Over twenty years ago, we started the Wine School of Philadelphia because the version of wine education we encountered felt fundamentally wrong. We built a curriculum based on scientific principles, sensory skill, critical thinking, and a pure love of wine.

Since then, thousands of students have studied with us. Our graduates work throughout the wine world as winemakers, sommeliers, educators, writers, importers, retailers, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals. The achievements of our graduates speak for themselves.

Yes, we know the wine world has its share of gatekeeping, petty rivalries and outdated hierarchies.  And we know that our independence has rankled some powerful individuals in the wine industry. 

Which brings us to the heart of our message to you. Last week, a competitor filed a lawsuit against us. At issue is the phrase “Philly Wine School,” a trademark we hold. We believe these claims are without merit and look forward to resolving the matter.

What matters most is this: nothing about this dispute affects the school, your classes, or your certifications earned through the National Wine School. 

Our commitment remains the same as it has been for more than twenty years: to put students first and to protect the culture of inclusion and curiosity that makes our community special. We believe the best response to all this is simply to keep teaching great classes.
