The desire to build Bar Ferdinand came about as a part of the natural evolution of Owen Kamihira’s fifteen year career as a restaurant designer and consultant.

Owen envisioned a local gathering place for neighbors to go for great tapas, wine, and conversation; an anchor establishment in the Northern Liberties community he has lived in for the past 28 years. His love for Spanish culture, combined with the right opportunity and timing, turned Bar Ferdinand from concept to reality.

Bar Ferdinand serves many traditional Spanish tapas along with creative and daring modern tapas and little dishes inspired by the diverse regions of Spain.

Tired of having to add ‘gusto’ to other sandwich shop offerings, Chef Peter McAndrews decided to open a shop of his own. With the help of partner Nathan Baynes, Paesano’s quickly went from a hole-in-the-wall pretender to a multi-award winning contender. “It’s like a dream come true,” say both proud partners. “You start with this idea about how to make something better…then all the sudden boom! They say we’re the Best of Philly, it’s been very satisfying.”

Come taste our distinctive Philly Style sandwiches with authentic Italian inspiration. Created by Chef Peter McAndrew’s of his celebrated flagship Modo Mio Trattoria, and Monsu’ restaurants, Paesano’s offers a robust culinary experience in a more casual setting. From house-made lamb sausage to Sicilian Style chic-pea pancakes our menu affords true Italian creation, but with Philly style gusto.

When Standard Tap opened its doors in December 1999, our goal was simple: to create a neighborhood tavern that featured great beer and wholesome food. With that in mind, we offer a draft-only beer selection that highlights the vast array of styles crafted by breweries located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Our food menu both complements the beer and expands the notion of what pub food can be. We use only the best available produce, poultry, meats and seafood — much of it from area farms and local vendors – to create fresh, seasonal dishes.

Johnny Brenda’s is a bar, restaurant, and music venue located in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia. Featuring a world-class sound system, and a balcony (a rarity for a room it’s size), it is unlike any performance space in Philadelphia. It maintains the feel of an elegant, iconic historical social hall with design elements reminiscent of a turn of the century burlesque club or theater.

Built on a philosophy of supporting the local community, Johnny Brenda’s serves all-draft high quality beer from local brewers as well as an eclectic menu using fresh ingredients supplied from area farmers.

The Main Line welcomes another Indian restaurant, the Fishtown favorite known as Ekta Indian Cuisine.

The Main Line has never really been known as a hotbed for Indian food. But that’s beginning to change, thanks to new spots like Tiffin, Saffron and, now, Ekta. Chef/owner Raju Bhattarai already has a successful Ekta location in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, so the transition to Bryn Mawr is bound to be a smooth one.

It’s all about flavor at this casual and inviting spot, where the luscious aromas of cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, curry, cayenne and coriander billow from steaming copper bowls. While great on their own, the vegetarian selections also make delicious sides for a tender lamb or chicken dish. Creamy and mild, the saag aur paneer—homemade cottage cheese cubes cooked with spinach—pairs nicely with the spicy, fragrant Kadai chicken, its creamy tomato base teeming with green peppers, onions, green chili and ginger. Or order hot naan fresh out of the charcoal-fired tandoor oven, and use it to scoop up mouthfuls of dal makhani—lentils cooked with tomato, ginger and onion. (When it comes to naan, take your pick: There are 12 types at Ekta.)

Don’t miss your chance to try a traditional Indian lassi, a yogurt-based drink often made with fruit. Sweet and tart, Ekta’s mango version is a cool accompaniment to the spicier dishes. Whatever you do, be sure to bring a bottle of wine or a few bottles of beer, and get ready to share. There’s plenty of flavor to go around at Ekta.

(215) 925-0770(215) 925-0770 started as a web only delivery only service to provide fresh healthy and nutritious Indian and Asian food delivery to the location of your choice. The service has been modeled after the famous delivery service of Mumbai, India, in which “Tiffin” refers to the Indian practice of delivering homemade lunches in metal canisters. It is an organized way to bring food from home kitchens to workers and students, rather than relying on street preferences and is less expensive. Tiffin wallahs, the famous Mumbai (formerly Bombay) deliverymen, are revered for their efficiency as they dash from a home kitchen to work or school.

From its original online roots, Tiffin has now evolved into a multi-platform food service company with six locations in the Philadelphia Metro area offering dine-in, carryout, delivery and catering services. In addition, Tiffin now has a high-end Indo-French restaurant, Tashan (, on the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.

In our opinion, famous Philadelphia food critic Craig LaBan summed it best in his review of Tiffin – “The Wharton-trained Narula, who founded (then left) Old City’s well-regarded Karma, is a food entrepreneur with a high-tech fetish. And he’s determined to take the mundane task of ordering supper into the realm of cyber-convenience, serviced by crisply efficient deliverymen in ties guided to your door by GPS tracking. The name, Tiffin, was inspired by the lunch courier networks of Bombay, in which barefoot deliverymen called dabbawallas bring multi-chambered metal boxes of freshly home-cooked meals to office workers each day. At the heart of Narula’s operation was dedicated to creating a changing, daily selection of three complete box meals inspired by homey specialties rarely seen on typical restaurant menus.”

Founded by Munish Narula, a former Investment Banker and a Wharton MBA, Tiffin relies heavily on technology and generates a good portion of its revenue from its fully ecommerce capable website. Munish also has extensive experience in the food service business. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Restaurant Management and a MS in Hospitality Administration from Johnson & Wales University, he started working for a full service chain restaurant where he quickly moved up the ladder to reach the position of Area Manager with 11 restaurants under his management. After earning a MBA degree in Finance from Wharton and a stint with bulge bracket Investment Bank, he came back to the food service business.
