The Hawk Haven story begins back in 1940 when Johan Felix Wuerker traveled from Germany to Cape May, New Jersey and purchased the land that would one day become a vineyard and winery. Three generations later the farmland was still in the family and it became Todd Wuerker’s turn to choose something to plant. The youngest of three sons, Todd and his brother planted the first grapevines, Cabernet Sauvignon, in 1997 before he was even of the legal drinking age. He knew nothing of wine but his roots in farming and his dedication to learning more about winemaking resulted in a very knowledgeable individual who not only produces award-winning wines but also consults for two other local vineyards. Additionally, he helped plant vines at Turdo Vineyards and Cape May Winery.

Cape May Winery has grown over the past two decades to produce some of South Jersey’s most distinguished wines. Our vineyard encompasses over four different vineyards, containing over 70 acres, from which we produce over 16 different varieties of grapes. Through the years, Cape May Winery has become one of Cape May’s top tourist attractions. We invite you to come and experience our winery with a visit to one of our three tasting rooms, sit on our charming deck, taking in the breathtaking views our one of our vineyards or go on a winery tour, where novice and experienced wine drinkers learn from grapes to bottle how our local wine is made. Get a behind the scenes look at our wine-making operation. Walk through the vineyard and then sample a soon to be released wine right from the barrel. Come and see what makes the Cape May area such a premier grape growing region. From Cape May’s sandy soil to mild climate, our grapes have the ideal temperature in which to grow.

Our overall wine production includes a variety of whites and reds which range from dry to sweet wine. Our main focus is on the viniferous grapes including some wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Chardonnay. Our blended wines, both dry and sweet, really hit the mark with our customers.

Our Signature white wine is our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, which is aged in French oak for over 16 months. The soft buttery flavors of vanilla ready the palette for a seductive experience which then finishes with a crisp dry fruitiness that is “shore” to please.

Our goal is to find a wine for each person’s preference. We produce over 20 different styles of wine and when you experience a tasting; our professional wine associates guide you to find the perfect match for your drinking preference. Of course, we encourage tasting a variety of wines as your palette changes over time and you may actually enjoy something you would not have tried before.

Turdo Vineyards is a family owned and run operation. It all begins with Sal, he is the owner, as well as master wine maker. His vision, commitment, and determination is what turned just over 5 acres of woods he purchased over ten years ago, into a very successful fully operational vineyard and winery. It took a lot work and time, not only from Sal, but from his family to make Turdo Vineyards what it has become. His wife Sara, and son Luca have been behind Sal, helping him from the beginning.

His elegant wife Sara, who you will most likely see in the tasting room showcasing her husband’s latest vintages, has been helping and supporting Sal since day one. Whether it’s pouring wine for customer tasting, or helping hand pick grapes during harvest season, Sara is there helping in every way she can.

Luca, Sal’s son, is also his right hand man, assisting Sal in the winemaking process, as well as tending to the vineyard. Luca also handles the vineyard’s marketing and public relations, as well as designing all the wine labels. Like Sara, Luca has been helping his father from the start of his endeavor, hand digging the vineyard’s first holes and planting the first vines. Whether it’s filtering wine, washing barrels, bottling the wine, picking grapes, or helping his mother in the tasting room, Luca lends a hand wherever it’s needed.

All the work and time needed to establish any successful business is extensive, but what makes this story extra special is that this was all done on a part-time basis. The Turdo family has been living in North Jersey for the past 23 years. They have been making the weekend trek to Cape May for over ten years. Sal was a successful electrical contractor before becoming a licensed electrical inspector in 3 towns in North Jersey. He inspects three days a week, and on most Wednesday nights, he and his wife Sara, make the three hour journey down to other end of the state.

Rightfully so, all the hard work paid off, and Turdo Vineyards has emerged as New Jersey’s finest winery. It has been honored with many honors and medals from various prestigious international wine competitions. Many newspapers including The Bergen Record, The Star Ledger, and Atlantic City Press have written articles on Sal and Sara. About their success, what they have accomplished, and Sal’s dream coming true. Most recently Turdo Vineyards was named best Wine Shop in Philadelphia Magazine’s Best of The Shore 2010 and was also featured on ABC 6 News – FYI Philly as seen below

The Cape May peninsula has a unique climate. For the tender European wine grapes (Vitis vinifera), the Mid-Atlantic region is hostile: too cold, too humid, and too rainy. But lower Cape May’s climate is moderated by two large bodies of water, the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. The configuration and climate parallels a famous French wine-growing region, the Bordeaux, which lies between the Atlantic and the lower Gironde River. Like the the area known as the Medoc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc do very well in this climate

Nassau Valley Vineyards is the first and only award winning winery in the state of Delaware.

Founded in 1987, our vineyards were the first commercial wine vineyards to exist in the “First” state. Peg Raley and her father, Bob Raley founded the vineyards on a family farm site just outside of historic Lewes, Delaware.

Peg got her start in the wine business working for Les Amis du Vin International and The Friends of Wine magazine. After several years of globe trotting for the publication she decided it was time to stop writing about other people’s wines and start making wines in Delaware. Delaware’s laws prohibited farm wineries, so Peg drafted legislation and lobbied the Delaware General Assembly to create Farm Winery legislation for the state. The law passed in 1991. The Raley’s opened Nassau Valley Vineyards in October of 1993.

Our vineyards are comprised of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. We use other regionally grown fruit to produce the 14 wines in our product line. We purchase grapes and fruit from growers on the eastern shore and supplement with other regionally grown fruit.

Owners Howard Solomon and Andy Simpson founded Bootleggers with the vision of creating a luxury shopping experience for both local and online customers while maintaining the low prices of outlet shopping.

In line with Howard and Andy’s vision, they built a brand new, state-of-the-art, 15,000 square feet store in Northfield, NJ. The store features wide aisles, low shelving, great lighting, and an easy-to-use website. Bootleggers also has a great selection of snacks, fine meats and cheeses, and gift baskets. The store also features a gorgeous, temperature-controlled Fine Wine room right at the front of the store and one of New Jersey’s largest selections of craft beers and scotches.

Andy and Howard wanted to the store to be easily accessible with “in and out” access. They chose the Kensington Square Shopping Center, which is located right off of Tilton Road. The store allows for easy access to and from Tilton Road and the Garden State Parkway (Exit 36). If that isn’t fast enough, customers can pre-order online or over the phone and have their full order boxed and ready to go. This service is completely free.

Bootleggers has low outlet prices and features a price match guarantee. Along with everyday discount prices, there are daily and weekly specials featured on the website and detailed in weekly emails to our loyalty program customers.

The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Everyone at Bootleggers aims to say hello to every customer that walks in the door, and the staff is always available to help customers find the perfect beverage. Come visit us at 200 Tilton Road in Northfield, New Jersey, 08225.

Balić Winery makes more than 27 award-winning wines. With this kind of selection of premium and ultra-premium wines under one roof, why go anywhere else?

Descendants of early settlers of Mays Landing planted Balić Winery, a vineyard since the early 1900’s. Savo Balić, a former vine-grower from the Adriatic Sea, migrated to the United States. In 1966 he fulfilled his lifelong desire to bring European accent to the American winemaking scene by acquiring the 57-acre vineyard.

Savo’s ancestral knowledge and experience has enabled him to produce wines of superior quality. In 1993, Savo’s nephew, Bojan Boskovic arrived from Europe to carry on the tradition of the Family.

Bojan’s European winemaking knowledge and experience combined with Mr. Balić’s expertise enhances the authenticity of the Balić Chateau in America.

Now in its 50th year, there are many exciting things happening at Balić’s Winery. We have remodeled our buildings, upgraded our equipment and expanded our product line with several new wine releases to serve our clientele better.

European born and bred Bojan Boskovic has followed in founder Savo Balić´s footsteps as the wine technologist. He has been working side-by-side with his uncle Savo since 1993. Bojan’s background is strong in experience from his family’s vineyard.
